The AI behind the vocal remover

FreeVocalRemover runs Hybrid Transformer Demucs, an open-source music source-separation model from researchers at Meta AI. Instead of simply filtering out the frequencies where voices usually sit — the trick old karaoke "vocal cut" tools used — it was trained on hundreds of multitrack studio recordings and learned what voices and instruments actually sound like. That is why it can remove harmonies and ad-libs too, while keeping the bass, drums and the rest of the arrangement intact.

Is this vocal remover really free?
Yes. You can separate up to 3 songs per day for free, without creating an account. Each file can be up to 6 minutes long and 50 MB in size.
Which audio formats can I upload?
MP3, WAV and M4A. You get two MP3 files back: the isolated vocals and the instrumental. You can play both in your browser before downloading.
How long does a separation take?
Most 3–4 minute songs are ready in under a minute once the upload finishes. If the AI server has been idle for a while, the first job can take a little longer to start.
What happens to my files?
Your upload and both results are deleted automatically 1 hour after you upload them. We never share your audio or use it to train AI models. Read the privacy policy for details.
Can I paste a YouTube, Spotify or SoundCloud link?
No. FreeVocalRemover only works with audio files you upload and does not download anything from streaming or video sites. Please only upload audio you own or have permission to use.
How clean is the separation?
Very clean on most studio recordings. Heavy reverb or echo on the voice can leave a faint trace in the instrumental, and instruments that sound voice-like, such as a saxophone or a synth lead, sometimes bleed into the vocal track.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs in your browser on desktop and mobile. The heavy lifting happens on our GPU servers.
